Update Schedule & Patch Notes
Apex Legends receives regular updates throughout each season. Here's the typical update schedule:
Season Launch Update (Major)
The biggest update of the season, released on launch day. Includes the new legend (if any), map changes, battle pass, weapon balance, gameplay changes, and bug fixes. These updates are typically 10-30 GB in size and require a full game download.
Collection Event Updates (Mid-Season)
Usually 1-2 collection events per season, lasting 2 weeks each. These include limited-time cosmetics, a new heirloom or prestige skin, a limited-time mode (LTM), and sometimes weapon balance changes or bug fixes. Smaller than season updates (typically 2-5 GB).
Ranked Split Update (Mid-Season)
Occurs approximately halfway through the season (around week 6). Includes a ranked map change, RP soft-reset, and sometimes ranked rule adjustments. This is usually a server-side change with a small client update (if any).
Hotfixes & Small Patches (As Needed)
Smaller patches released as needed to fix critical bugs, balance issues, or server problems. These are typically server-side or small client updates (under 1 GB). Emergency hotfixes can happen at any time if there's a critical game-breaking issue.
Battle Pass Explained
Each season comes with a battle pass that offers exclusive cosmetics and rewards as you level up. Here's how it works:
Free Track (Free for All Players)
All players automatically have access to the free track, which includes rewards at certain tiers (usually every 2-3 levels). Free track rewards include: Apex Packs, Crafting Metals, Legend Tokens, weapon charms, and occasionally a free legend unlock or a rare skin. You don't need to do anything special — just play the game and earn XP to level up the battle pass.
Premium Track (950 Apex Coins / ~$9.50 USD)
The premium battle pass costs 950 Apex Coins (approximately $9.50 USD) and unlocks rewards at every tier (100 tiers total). Premium rewards include: exclusive legend skins, weapon skins, banner frames, poses, trackers, Apex Packs, Crafting Metals, and more. The premium pass pays for itself if you reach tier 100 — you earn 1,000 Apex Coins back from the pass, enough to buy the next season's pass.
How to Level Up the Battle Pass
Battle pass XP is earned by playing matches and completing daily and weekly challenges. Daily challenges reset every 24 hours and offer small amounts of XP. Weekly challenges offer larger XP rewards and reset every Tuesday. There are also seasonal challenges that offer bonus XP. The fastest way to level up is to complete as many weekly challenges as possible — they offer the most XP per time invested. First-win-of-the-day bonuses also help.
Collection Events & Limited-Time Events
Apex Legends hosts several events throughout each season. Here are the main types:
Collection Events
The biggest events, usually 1-2 per season. Feature 24 limited-time cosmetics (skins, banners, etc.) available for 2 weeks. Collecting all 24 items unlocks a special heirloom or prestige skin for a specific legend. Collection events also include a limited-time mode (LTM) and a themed store. Past collection events include: Veiled, Doppelgangers, Uprising, Thrillseekers, and more.
Anniversary Event (February)
Celebrates Apex Legends' anniversary (February 4). Features free rewards, login bonuses, limited-time modes (often including solo mode), and special cosmetics. The anniversary event is usually one of the most popular events of the year and often includes fan-favorite LTMs returning.
Holo-Day Bash (December)
The annual holiday event featuring winter-themed cosmetics, the Winter Express LTM, and festive map changes. Usually runs from mid-December to early January. One of the most beloved events for its cozy winter atmosphere and popular Winter Express mode.
Halloween / Fight or Fright (October)
Halloween-themed event featuring spooky cosmetics, the Shadow Royale LTM (eliminated players become shadows), and darkened map versions. Usually runs in late October. Known for its creepy atmosphere and popular Shadow Royale mode.
Store Events & Sales
Smaller store rotations and sales happen regularly, including: Legend Recolor Store (weekly rotating recolors), Weekly Store (new cosmetics every Tuesday), and occasional sales on Apex Coins or battle passes. Check the in-game Store tab regularly for new items and limited-time offers.
